Our mission

Streethearts Animal Rescue is 501c3 non-profit organization. We strive to save and aid animals from situations of abandonment, neglect, abuse and injury. We focus on street intercession, medical help, rescue placement, fostering and finding forever homes.

Our Story

StreetHearts Animal Rescue was founded in Flint, Michigan in 2014 by a retired military police officer who started doing rescue on his own time. He saw many animals suffering, but didn’t see enough people stepping up to help, so he decided to fill that gap himself. Over the years, the rescue grew and his drive inspired others to join. Streethearts is now a 501c3 nonprofit with a network of fosters, volunteers, transporters, and patrons.

As we have grown, we haven’t lost sight of our mission. Our rescue’s acronym, SAR, is a fitting one because in the military SAR stands for Search and Rescue. Streethearts started on the front lines of helping strays, and we continue to be on the frontline.  Through years of street rescue, we have established ourselves as a rescue who will answer the tough calls from both residents and law enforcement. Genesee County Law Enforcement will often call us when animal control is unavailable to help with animal situations. We often find ourselves answering calls that have us rescuing abused or injured animals in all weather and at all hours.

But that’s only the beginning. Once we get a dog, cat or even wildlife, then there is a lot that follows. Whether it’s finding a stray hold while we search for an owner and a foster placement if no owner is found, transferring to another rescue, boarding, vetting, and/or potentially adopting them out in the future, there is a huge amount of work that goes into every animal. We couldn’t do it without the help of our generous donors. Please consider donating today.
